How to install a Novell SSL certificate
Top

Before connecting to a Novell server with LDAP you need to install a certificate on the machine on which you are running the Admwin executable.

Exception: Windows 2000 without the "Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4" does not require a certificate and will probably (depending on installed fixes) ignore any certificate provided.

How to install a Novell SSL certificate

·Download the Novell International Cryptographic Infrastructure (NICI) for Windows from novell.com and install it on a Windows machine with ConsoleOne.
·Download the Novell Certificate Server 2.21 Snap-in for ConsoleOne from novell.com and install it on the Windows ConsoleOne machine. (Novell Certificate Server cannot be managed using ConsoleOne running on a NetWare server console.)
·Start ConsoleOne, select your tree > security > tree CA properties

·Select Certificates > Self signed certificate, click Export

·Export in DER format.

·In windows Explorer on the machine on which you run the Admwin executable: double click the .der file to install it.

You can view all installed certificates in Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet options > content > certificates.

If there are problems, check the Windows Event viewer system log for messages from source Schannel.

Schannel, short for "Secure channel", is the Microsoft Security Support Provider DLL that implements the TLS/SSL protocols.
